Uncommon Sense is an independent magazine about a world that has grown stranger than the stories we tell about it. We write about the things that explain our time, and about the things that refuse to be explained.

THE PUBLICATION

We cover the economy, technology, music, film, and human behaviour. We choose a story when it is both strange and significant, when it makes you stop and ask how this can be happening and why so few people have noticed. That might be an economy that breaks its own rules and keeps running anyway. It might be a technology that moves power from one set of hands to another while the rest of us are looking at our phones. It might be a song or a film that captures the feeling of an era before anyone has found the words for it.

The news cycle rewards whoever arrives first. We would rather arrive last and stay longest. We are rarely first to a story. We aim to be the version of it you remember.

EDITORIAL STANDARDS

Every article names its sources, so you can check our work. We keep what we know apart from what we think. When we imagine where things might lead, we tell you plainly that we are imagining. When we get something wrong, we say so and set it right.

We belong to no party and back no candidate. We are partisan only about clear writing, honest facts, and the respect owed to a reader's time.

We carry no advertising, which means no one pays us to hold your attention. We answer to the reader and to no one else.
